If your business
uses an Air Receiver to store compressed air, and it is more than 12 months
old, you have a legal responsibility to ensure that Receiver complies with the
Pressure Systems Safety Regulations (PSSR). Receivers with capacities as low as
50 litres are covered by PSSR, due to the pressure at which the air is stored.
This means that they are subject to compulsory, regular air receiver
inspections.
Why PSSR is important
When stored in a
tank, compressed air is kept at a high pressure and so any faults with that
tank pose a significant safety risk to the end users of the air system, as well
as to others working near the compressor. These risks can be mitigated by
having the Air Receiver inspected and certified by a Competent Examiner.
